There will not be anymore Horn In The Middle on CJAM as I have moved to Seoul to work for one year.

I have enjoyed my time at CJAM immensly and have loved every minute of the show.

Jazz Tracks host, Peter Stevens, passed yesterday May 14, 2009.

I do not know any details.

Peter Stevens was the long time host of Jazz Tracks on CJAM. The show was on the air for many years.

There is some sort of problem with our signal..it seems a Detroit station might be interfering and causing the mess you may have heard during the time the show should have been on the air. Oh what a show. The 25th show of Horn in the Middle. The first show back live on the air after a few weeks away in which Horn in the Middle travelled the world and got some sun. Even radio shows need a vacation.

My, my, my...what can I say? Ladies of Jazz, Boss Beats series 5. Every jazz lovers dream show. I had so much fun making this show and I hope you have just as fun listening. This is music, real music.

Fine and Mellow by Billie Holiday and gang. This video is just brilliant. The reactions on Lady's face, the band, the visibly happy faces to be reunited again. Just lovely in every way.

Hello dear listeners,

Just a note to let you know that after this week's show I will be going away on a little vacation. Oh, vacation- all I ever wanted.

This means that the next 3 shows will either be pre-recorded or have a fill-in host. They will however still air on their scheduled times.

March 14th's show is in the regular (awesome) format.

On March 21st, Cassandra Caverhill of The New Pollution, will be filling in. Give her some love, she will do a great job.

Every week I fall in love with a song. My heart moves on quickly, the song is then just let go into the library of the tunes of i. But for those brief shining days, it is magic between us. I play the song over and over again, night and day, learn every beat and melody..and once it is played on the show on saturday mornings..the love affair is over. It's just how it is with me..no one knows the mysterious ways of the heart.

Today's show was the first of Black History Month. Many programmers on CJAM will be playing special content this month to celebrate. Today, I celebrate with some special songs. Though, I like to think that I celebrate Black History with every show that I do. Today's show I was - and still am as I type this- very excited about! You can tell this by the amount of exclamation marks!!! I am using!!!

On today's BOSS BEATS series 3, I profiled none other than Charlie fricken Yardbird Parker. (Authors note: I added the 'fricken', he is not historically known by this)

Today was a day to hear some Sam Cooke, if you know what I mean.

A lazy show today, I just wanted to hear some jazz. Usually on the show, the balance is pretty even between jazz and soul ( I try to have it that way anyway), but today it was loaded with Jazz. Call it winter blues, or whatever you will. The mix-up tracks were very chill today as well. The song 'Hold You In My Arms' is a beautiful one by Ray LaMontagne- who is a mountain man (Don't you love when people fit their names??- Do we become our names, like some kind of destiny, or do our names become us?)

A very nice man named Frank called the show today and it made my little day. It is proof that someone is listening out there besides my mom, who sometimes forgets to listen.

On today's show we had the BOSS BEATS series 2 profiling the song Summertime.
Composed by George Gershwin in 1935 for Porgy and Bess. Lyrics by Dorothy Heyward and Ira Gershwin. Versions by Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Sam Cooke and Renee Olstead were played.
I chose Renee Olstead as the best version, it's fantastic.

On this weeks show-November 1st!- I will be doing the first part of the series 'BOSS BEATS' in which I compare a jazz/soul/blues standard. The first song up to the proverbial plate is 'Teach me Tonight'.

Written by Gene de Paul and lyrics by Sammy Cahn, the song was first published in 1953.

I know of over 55 versions of this song, everyone from Ella Fitzgerald and Liza Minnelli to Stevie Wonder and Sammy Davis Jr. have covered this song.

The De Castro sisters had the most success with the song in 1954, they made it to number 2 on the US charts with the cover.

I will be playing and comparing 5, count them 5!, versions of the song and asking people to call in or go to the blog and vote on which version they like best. It is very optimistic of me to think that anyone will actually do this, so I will probably end up choosing which I like best.
